A Brief History
The Hatch House Bed and Breakfast opened in 2019, but it wasn’t always a bed and breakfast…
The Hatch House Bed and Breakfast is part of the Historic District of Towanda Pennsylvania. It was originally commissioned by Charles L Tracy, the president of the First National Bank of Towanda and partern in the Humphrey Brothers and Tracy Shoe Factory. Construction was begun in 1888 and completed in 1889 as the residence of the Tracey Family. Mr. Tracy’s affiliation with the bank is evident in that some of the architectural details replicated from the edifice of the bank building, i.e. the arches abot the first floor windows and the detailed customized tiles on the chimney.
The house has had many purposes over the years, including residence, Baptist Church, and now the Bed and Breakfast.
Included here are photo of the Tracy family including Charles L. Tracy, E. Frances Holcomb Tracy, Loise Tracy, Maria Nobles Holcomb, Ulilla Tracy Hall, Frances Hall, Judson Holcomb, Charles Tracy Jr.
